COLLEGE EVENTS
Teds runs and participates in so many events every year. There are so many sporting, social, fundraising, academic & Fine arts Event opportunities to participate in.
2. Social Events
TEDS organises and participates in many social events.
Whilst small events happen all the time, our college holds a high standard in running several key events year-to-year.
O-Week
This week is designed as an orientation period for all students attending the University.
Your first O-Week is extremely exciting & fresh
the college runs several internal events, but there are also stacks of other activities and events run by the University itself you can get involved with.
Cellar Parties!
Cellar parties are a unique feeling of happiness.
Under Edward’s Hall lies a labyrinth that rests awaiting a hero to announce cellar party! on social media. Soon, Forsythe Cellar becomes filled with people, loud music and good times. These gatherings superglue TEDS, building belonging & wellbeing; somehow better than sharing a meal.
Day Parties!
Day parties are a type of event that most wouldn’t have encountered before arriving at TEDS.
The whole idea of them is that it’s just a normal planned event, however it’s held in broad daylight.
You might knock it as a crazy idea, but think about the benefits: you get some sun, stay warm and by the end you’re tired and in bed at a healthy hour.
International Farewell
The International Farewell says goodbye to the foreign exchange students we have become best friends with over the duration of semester one.
A paid, formal dinner, celebrated with a hired bar.
Hall Ball
The highly anticipated ‘event of the year’ is TEDS’ annual Hall Ball. It is a night where a suit-and-tie dinner is held to celebrate the year living together; by spending treasury funds. This ball is as old as our dining hall and is always very pleasurable.
Garden Party
The annual TEDS Garden Party:
decades-young, a party whose reputation and fame precedes itself; the Valhalla of parties throughout University. The last of the year.
Most never again come close to the fun they have, but all say it is the best event.
The event committee on Teds (the RMAC) organise many internal events. These events include parties on college and at venues around The Greater Newcastle area.
Socialising is not all about going out to town and fancy clothing at Teds.
The strong extra-curricular culture at TED'S is extremely contagious and is one of the best things about living on Residence.
3. Charity Fundraisers
Cancer Council’s Relay for Life
TEDS is a huge supporter of the Cancer Council’s Relay for Life initiative each year.
as a college we have surprisingly set records such as the highest number of laps journeyed.
Parent’s Ball
The Parents’ Ball is a dining experience held in the regular main dining hall. it is a licensed charity event where parents/friends are brought along to experience TEDS. students take their guests to the local student pub to liquify a large bar tab.
Mystery Bus
Residents purchase tickets for an unknown journey through greater Newcastle on three buses, each of which stop at different mystery locations the likes of pubs, local sights and activities venues.
Each bus has a group theme, and the night ends with all three buses meeting at one final location.
Worlds’ Greatest Shave at TEDS
It is an annual tradition for our charity officers to run a huge Worlds Greatest Shave campaign for the Leukaemia Foundation. Our TEDS community really gets behind the shaving of hair, each year we raise many thousands. We don’t like doing it just because it’s funny when someone loses their hair; but because charities are simply what we do.

Soccer:
Intercollegiate Football
Here at TEDS we have rich history in an astounding variety of sports, including the less-seen games of soccer between colleges.
Teds-Evatt:
TEDS v Evatt House
The footy game that is the annual TEDS versus Evatt clash is a sporting event that manages to reserve the attention of and even gee-up many who are ‘non-sport’ in nature.
The battle of the brawn between these two rival colleges is mighty, a hatred arises that is as old as Evatt House itself for this single match.
Ultimate:
Intercollegiate Frisbee
There wasn’t, isn’t, and won’t be any competition for TEDS throwing flying discs made of plastic.
Undefeated, just like in everything else.
Blocks:
Burnet v Cutler
Regularly the most anticipated sporting event of the year, it has a cult-following of fans of the sport who endure training for many weeks in order to hopefully beat the opposing TEDS dorm building. The Blocks rugby game is a week-long event for the players, with pride and history at stake. The lead-up pits friends against each other; hence the outcome jams one team on full throttle celebration
Swimming:
Intercollegiate Swimming Carnival
Although, surprisingly, the majority of TEDS residents are from the country, we sure do know how to swim; for a bunch of land animals.
5. Academic Culture
Aside from general studies and all that the university has to offer. The college also hosts Trivia Nights throughout the year.
There is also an Intercollegiate Academic Shield with events such as:

No competition for TEDS’ masterminds
As a college, we have perpetually held the best academic statistics in all areas. We are in history as the residence with the highest GPA/pass rate.
We also cater for the most medical & engineering students out of all residences.
6. Fine arts
There is plenty of opportunities to be involved in the fine arts at TEDS. There are amazing, talented performers who come through each year here.
Up for grabs each year is the chance to win the Intercollegiate Arts Shield for extravagant displays of the fine arts.
Music Nights
Music night is the coming together of TEDS residents in order to listen to the talents of others in performing music.
These events are held in the open-air, and also during times such as earth-hour.
Talent Performances
These are one of the great ways to showcase resident’s skills that they may not necessarily be able to normally put on display.
Artwork Exhibitions
We have talented artists and designers who come through our college.
These gifted people have the opportunities of displaying their work in a gallery for showcase nights that are held right here.
Music Performance and Production
TEDS even holds it’s own few gems who produce music as a career within their degrees.
